It starts like this.

In 2017, ABzero was founded as an innovative, high-tech startup with strong social relevance, built around a clear idea: transporting valuable and highly perishable goods—blood and blood components from donations, organs, special medications, or life-saving instruments—in an efficient, safe, and ultra-fast way.
After extensive development work, validation studies, and proof-of-concept activities, and after receiving numerous awards in both national and international contexts, we have now brought together a cohesive and determined team around the ABzero project, focused on achieving results and offering hospitals and medical-logistics operators a service with exceptionally high production standards.
As a spin-off of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, a center of excellence in robotics, we carry with us a top-level background of experience and multidisciplinarity.
Alongside one of the founders, the team today includes technical experts in the aeronautical and regulatory fields, marketing and sales management, software development and electronic design, as well as advisors from the medical and innovation sectors.

Giuseppe Tortora
Founder e CEO
Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering - University of Pisa. PhD in Biorobotics - Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies. Experience in entrepreneurship gained as CEO of a medical startup, until March 2017. Numerous awards related to entrepreneurship, innovation, and startup of the company.
Denis Buscaino
Software Developer
Denis Buscaino has a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and works as a software developer at ABzero. Throughout his educational journey, he has acquired not only the foundational scientific principles of computer science but also skills such as problem-solving, design, development, and maintenance of small computer systems, as well as analysis and understanding of existing computer systems.
Matteo Mariani
Automation Officer
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and a Master’s degree in Robotics and Automation Engineering. He has experience in Python programming and in the use of MATLAB and Simulink environments. He works with ROS for the simulation of autonomous robotic systems and with Docker for software environment containerization. He is interested in reinforcement learning and computer vision, applying artificial intelligence techniques to AGV guidance. He believes in the value of continuous improvement, approaching each challenge with dedication and curiosity in order to consistently expand his skills and develop increasingly effective solutions.
Giovanni Cirone
He holds a law degree and is specialized in health-prevention systems. Giovanni is a military drone pilot qualified for BVLOS operations and has obtained the A1/A3 and A2 (formerly CRO) licenses, as well as CRM, SORA, and Aeronautical Communications certifications. He is authorized for the air transport of “Dangerous Goods” in accordance with the IATA DGR Regulation. A professional expert in operating both military and civilian UAS in the enterprise sector, he has accumulated hundreds of flight hours with state-certified military RPAS and civilian platforms. He is currently PIC for ABzero’s most important operations.
Anna Lisa Buscemi
Chief Communication Officer
Bachelor's degree in Economics - University of Pisa. Experience in administrative, organizational, and project management activities. Holds a pre-academic diploma from the Luigi Boccherini Conservatory in Lucca in opera singing.
Rosanna Zaza
Public Funding Manager
Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences - University of Rome "La Sapienza" Executive MBA - University of Malta Link Campus. Experience in contributions and incentives for Research, Development, and Innovation, in international partnerships, and in technical and financial reporting of research and development projects. Has conducted teaching activities on the subject of territorial marketing.
Donatello Amicone
CTO
Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering - University of Cassino. PhD in Electrical and Information Engineering - University of Cassino. Registered in the Engineers' Register of the Province of Campobasso. Extensive work experience in hardware and software design. Author of scientific publications and winner of awards in the field of Smart Cup.
Sergio Zamboni
Senior consultant Business Development & Finance
Bachelor's degree in Economics - Catholic University of Milan. Over 60 years of professional experience in the fields of Industrial Automation and Services, Aerospace and Defense, including 15 years as an employee, 25 years as a manager, and 20 years as a consultant with first-level assignments. Mentor at Federmanager.
Josè Francisco Chiorino Piloto
Sales Agent
José Francisco Chiorino Piloto is a Sales Agent at ABzero with over 10 years of experience in business consulting and commercial development, specializing in the construction, renewable energy, and international trade sectors. Thanks to professional experience across Latin America and Europe, he has developed a deep understanding of multicultural dynamics and a global network of contacts. He combines strategic expertise in process optimization, market entry, and international negotiation, supporting companies in sustainable growth and innovation. His pragmatic vision and adaptability make him a reliable partner for complex projects and multicultural challenges.
